Increased production at the large Crofut and Knapp list company plant in East Norwalk has demand- ed expansion of the power system. and work was started yesterday on the installation of a horizontal tubu- lar boiler for a new furnace in the power house. When the new factory was erect- ed loss than three years ago. three units in the power plant were com- pleted but the increased business of the concern in these years has da- manded power that taxed these bollrrs to capacity and that is the reason for the installation of the fourth unit. The power plant is now complete. The new holler arrived yesterday. it attracted much attention when helm; drawn through the city be- tween a bevy truck and a. trailer. whit ll can carry .15 tons. It was made by the Biselow Boiler cout- psnv of New Haven and will be in- stalled by workmen from that com- pany. The shell of the boiler alone, weighs 13 tons. The boiler will be swung into place in a cradle suspended from large steel beams at the top of the power house. It. will he hoisted to the beams. After the boiler has been swung. the furnace proper will be erected under it. The boiler is seven feet in diameter and 22 feet. five inches long. it is :75 horse power. The work on the suspension of the boiler and the setting up of the furnace will be completed in about ten days. The piping will be done then. by the Files Engineering com- psnv. The, entire work of installation is under the direction of Marshall P. Baxter. chief engineer of the Crofut and Knapp company.
