In a secluded nook in Shoretront
park. at the foot of Quintard ave-
nue, stands a brand new green and
white house which. except for elec-
trio lights. is already for occupancy.
Mrs. Sarah Lane, realtor in the
Mercantile building on South Main
street. planned and constructed the ‘.
home. this being the seventh she
has built in the last two years.
Tlils house is built with a short
from and a long back due to the
fact that the front of it rests on
the top of the hill. while the back
is in the hollow.
A low stone wall around the front
of the property. a little white wood-
en bridge with high pnled sides.
spanning the galley between the
sidewalk and the front step of the
house. and a slanting roof over a
colonial faced front. give a distinc-
tive note to the home.
The building itself is white with
blue-green trimmings. 'i‘he wom-
an’s touch is revealed in the two
long flower boxes which stretch
themselves below the front room
windows.
Garage? Yes, and it's around the
back of the house. being reached
by a driveway which circles the
lower end of the property and ends

Weather Conditions Af-
fect Property Changes
In Early Summer
"This last spurt of hot weather
has made the real estate business
pick up." said Arthur Hoyt. member
of the firm of William F. Hoyt and
Son. realtors. (6 South Main street.
"For weeks we have been wait-
ing for the usual New York
crowds to come to Norwalk and
look over the summer property. but
the chilly weather has kept them
right in their own city. Not until
within the last few days have there
been any real prospects."
Mr. Hoyt said that a. cold sprint;
and late summer such as we have
experienced this year usually re-
sults in low real estate business.
New York city people do not think
about getting busy on their summer
plans when the weather is cold and
dreary.»lnd then when the hot
weather does finally come around.
it is too late. The New Yorkers
simply say. "0. well. it is so late
in the season now. let's not bother
about going away at all."
Discussing the building of the
average home. Mr. Hoyt said that a
couple nowadays stops twice to con-
sider before taking on the building
of a home. because of the panic
prices of lumber and labor.
He also said that the reason old
houses in Norwalk today cost as
much as do new ones. is because the
majority of people reason in “10‘
following way: “Well. it we want
to build a new house. we will have
to get a. good price for the old one.
since building prices are so high. or
it is no use selling. Besides as long‘
as we are close to town. the site is‘
worth a good dea ." ‘
And so they get the price.
