will be made in 36 hours is not far
distant. in the opinion of Dr. Ed-
mund Rumpier, German aerial ex-
pert who has planned an aircraft
capable of carrying 1‘36 passengers
and seven tons of freight.
Addressing the society for Scien-
tific Aviation, the veteran expert.
described the prospects for covering
the distance between European and
North and South American ports in
36 hours allowing four hours for
landing at the Azores. He said an
air route between Europe and South
America can be laid out with less
difficulty than one to North Ameri-
ca. since the open stretch between

Strike In New Haven
Almost every cigar manufacturing
plant in New Haven stopped opera-
tions Thursday as the result of- the
walkout of some out) cigarmakers.

Excavations are completed for the
new theatre in Washington street be-
ing built by Harry Goodwin. at the
rear of the Hotel Mahaekemo.
It has taken only 14 days for the
Daniel Dccring company to finish
this detail of the job for the Nor-
walk Building company.
Today the foundation stands half
built. The next largest and most
intricate section. called the "stage
“all" is already done. it is sur-
prising to view all this work accom-
plished in the center of South Ner—
walk. out of sight of the passing
t-rowtls.
For the present there is only one
driveway from \Vnshingion street.

the hotel.
There are 8.000 cubic feet of stone-

the new theatre but it is said the
lessees are planning to let Nora-elk
name the theatre through a contest
in the local papers.

Of Mercy at Milford
Receives its Charter
MILFORD, June 19.-(AP). A
charter was received here yester—
day from Hartford for a new col-
logo in Milford to be known as the
College of 'Uur Lady of Mercy.
Laurulton llull. The college will
take the place or the present school
here known as Lauraiion hall. This
school was founded 21 years ago by
the Slslcrs of Mercy and has been
conducted since then as a. high and
boarding school for girls. For years
the school was under the supervis-
ion of Mother Augustine who died a
few years ago. It is now in charge
of Mother Sister lilary dc Chantal.
There are 147 pupils. The new col-
logo will be similar to Alhertus
linguus college. organized In New
