mittee.
The club. in order to add to its
income has rented its rooms for the
summer months to a private party.
Since the chapters and classes have
ended their work for the summer
months. there is little need of the
club itself. It will reopen in the fall.
The matron will remain through-
out the summer months.
Mrs. Merriman. the new presi-
dent. announced that within a
short time she would make the rest
of the appointments. including
committee chairmen. and will also
call a meeting for the winter plans.
In her speech of acceptance. Mrs.
Merriman said that she hoped to be
able to carry on the good work and
would work to make the club more
and more successful and hoped for
the cooperation of each and every
member.

Strawberry Gobbler
One quart of strawberries. 1 cup
granulated sugar. 6 slices bread.
buttered. 3:4 cup whipping cream.
2 tablespoons powdered sugar.1-8
teaspoon vanilla.
Cut bread 1~. inch thick and re-
move crustn. The pieces should be
about 4 inches square. Butter both
sides of each slice of‘bread. Wash
and hull berries Put layer for lay-
er of berries and sugar in a stnooth
sauce pan and cook over a low tire
for 20 minutes. The heat can be
increased after the Juice is drawn
out of the berries. Put a slice of
Cover with a layer of hot berries
andtinue layer for layer until all is

cold. at least two hours. Serve with
cream whipped and sweetened with
powdered sugar and Severed pith
vanilla.

Ells’ Car Hit By Load Of
Them From New Canaan
and Festival Is On.
West avenue resembled a straw—
berry patch when a truck carrying a
load of berries and operated by Rob-
ert Marshall. of New Canaan. crash-
ed into the rear end of the automo-
bile owned by Fred A. Elis. secre-
tary and treasurer of the Norwalk
Savings society this morning.
Mr. Ella parked his car at the
curb near Cedar street and a short
tinle later Marshall driving the
truck north attempted to swing out
from the ,cur_h the steering knuckle
locked and the front “heels would
not turn. The truck struck the car
and thou turned ovcr throwing bor-
l'ies all over lilo street.
Mrs. [ills and her two children
were in their car at the time but
were uninjured. The Ells' machine
was also badly damaged.
Motorcycle Policeman Martin Len-
gyol investigated the accident. No
arrests were made.

The 36th annual report of the
South Norwalk Library and reading
room has been submitted to thc-
board of directors by Agnes E. Blou-
chard. the librarian.
The report covers the library year
ending May 81. This was a record
your in the number of books issued.
a total of 51.268 being given out.
One thousand two hundred and
twenty eight books were added dur-
ing the your. ‘12 were gifts and
516 were purchased. The report is
a lengthy one and covers everything
pertaining to the library in detail.

The hearing of a charge of rock-
less driving against Henry F. Jaissle.

whose car crushed that of Mrs. Mary
K. Johnson of New Canaan at West-
port avenue hill earlier in the wet-k.
has been postponed from Monday to
June 21st The delay was grantrd
because of Mrs. Johnson‘s inability

- Grotto Celebration
Joe LaPorto's Wayside Inn on the
post road was the scene of much
good-natured merry-making ast

after celebrating the 11th birthday
