The one story building constructed of tapestry brick. is very attractive. It sets back from the road and has a wide crush- ed stone driveway leading to it. There are three gasoline tanks set along the drive. so that automobiles can re-fuel without parking in south Main street. The from of the building is used for an ethos and sales and display room. The repair department is to the rear of this and has a side en- trance. This department is equip- ped with a, vulcanizing machine and all other modern apparatus for changing and repairing tires. The hard tire department is lo- cated at the‘ back of the building. Large trucks can be run inside this department for tire changes. A large machinb for changing hard tires has been installed. It. exerts a pressure of 400 tons and is one of the two largest in the state. the other being in Stamford. The enor- mously incres'sed volume of sales which is made possible by the ma- chinery of credit results in greater saving to the consumer. Budgeting one's income through the method of installment buying has the further merit of encouraging thrift, Mr. Reeves indicated. The line of least resistance is to fritter away the family income without planning for its maximum use. When the family, however, has de- cided to purchase a car, furniture. or other means of improving the standard of living. a certain amount is set aside of the regular income and saved. ' This development of personal cre- dit. enabling the public to have the use of these assets while paying for them. is simply the adoption of rec- ognized business standards to per- sonal financing. What is now the Cumpo Inn was the original church edifice and was consecrated in 1835. This property was dispos- ed of in 1832 with the understand- ing that it should never be used as a. hotel but the church trustees were unable to control its destiny once it was out of their hands. Friend Hay Fever Back Again Coincident with the warm days of late spring and early summer when blooming plants and trees tempt one out into the country. a certain num- ber of people will remember with regret that their annual hay fever attack will soon be on. Certain others will go through this period with immunity but will await with real dread the late summer and fall blossoming season which brings in its train even more stl'lous at- tacks of this disease. Time was when people “took" their season of hay fever like an “act of providence" and existed as best they could with symptoms in- volving nose, eyes, bronchial tubes and skin during two or three months of the your, sometimes long- cr. Of more recent years however hay fever is better understood. The cause of it is known to he the pro. tein of the pollen of certain flower- ing pleats—usually those of less brilliant coloring such as grass and ragweed and the cereals such as rye. oats. wheat and corn. To cer- tain people, estimated as close to a million in the L'nllcrl Slates. thes‘e pollens when inhaled produce a se- vere irritation in the nasal mom brancs. As a usual thing this irrita- tion is caused by the protein of one specific pollen, though occasionally people are found to be susceptible to more than one. The pollens causing hay fever are wind-blown, since those that are in- sect-carried are not found in the air and so cannot be inhaled into the nasal passages. Those poilens are found among the grasses in the spring causing the early form of hay fever. They are not as minute in size as the late fall pollens of the ragweed. and are carried to a distance of not much over a mile. whereas the fall poilcns being sinnl. ler are often blown five miles or more. So the first precaution for one known to be susceptible to hay fever is to keep a safe distance from the section where such plants grow.
