' OVER ASQUITH

LONDON—(AP). Lloyd George
apparently has had the advantage
in the first round of his conflict
with the Earl of Oxford an A5-
quith. As ltader of the Liberal party
Lord Oxford and his supporters
have taken Lloyd George. as chair-
man of the parliamentary grodp of
that party. to task for his attitude
in refusing to participate in party
councils when the general strike was
in progress.

In accordance with a request of
members of the party, 111'. Lloyd
George summoned a meeting for
yesterday. it was held in the House
of Commons and after three. hours
discussion was adjourned until
Tuesday next.

Mr. Lloyd George himself made a.
long and impassioned speech. justi-
fying his attitude, and :1. large ma-
jority of those who spoke support-
ed him. There was a motion of
confidence in Mr. Lloyd George be-
fore the meeting, and it was clear
that if it was pressed to a division.
it would. be carried by an over-
whelming majority.

Accordingly no vote was taken.
as Lord Oxford's partisans thought
it would be desirable first to ac-
quaint him with‘ "the sense of the
meeting" and the object of the ad-
journment until Tuesday is to hear
his reply.

Exattly what "the sense of the
meeting" implies has not been di-
vulged. for all the participants de-
clare themselves vowed to silence.
but it is freely asserted that the
mission of the delegates to the Lib-
eral leader is not a very congenial
