This is largely due to the {act that
Connecticut furnishes the direct .
arteries for motor vehicle. travel be-
tween New York City and Boston.
All but an inconsiderable number
(perhaps 1 per cent of the whole)
.or the so-cnllcd “foreign" cars on
the highways of this state are
New York and Massachusetts sc-
hlelcs. A large proportion or them
are heavy trucks engaged in inter”
state irclght and passenger trans-
portation. a type whose increase is
complicating the traffic
throughout the country.
Because at its position between
the two great metropolitan centers
and its many “iceder” roads run-
ning into Boston and New York.
the proportion of foreign cars to
domestic vehicles. in Connecticut.
is probably' considerably larger
than that for any other sitto in the
Union. At least 7 per, cent oi” the
core involved in accidents in Con-
necticut last year were machines
registered in other states and as
per cent were cars from towns
other-than those in which the acci-
dents occurred. Thc figures torout»

separalte classification during the.
first, quarter of 1925. but were in-
cluded in the list of “out-ot-town"
cars innecidents. so it is likely that
the percentage 0! “out-of—town" cars
