Which 16 Months’ Infant
Kills Self.
While a student nurse'was absent
one. 16 months old. son of Carmelt
Intelisano. 93 Hallctt street. worked
his head through a three and three-
tlon hospital crib and strangled to
death.
The baby was only a. patient in
the hospital two hours. An after-
math of measles and pneumonia. he
developed an ulcer on his left eye.
About 12 o‘clock, the nurse in
charge of the ward made her rounds
and then left to prepare food for
little Frank. She returned in ap-
proximately 15 minutes and found
the child dead. with his head out-
side of the crib and his neck wedg-
ed in an opening.
Frantic at finding the child in
that position the nurse ran for Dr.
Maurice llodgon. house physician.
She has been exonerated by Dr.
Harold W. Hex-soy. the superinten-
dent. of all blame. .
Hospital authorities erect a loss
to explain how a child 16 months
of age could work its head through
the narrow opening. Coroner John
J. Phelan. who is conducting an in-i
vestigation. said today that he.
was puzzled.
Dr. Hersey said that Dr. Hodgonp
mad-i cvory effort to resuscitate the
child. but it was futile.
Medical Examiner H. L. Peters.
after an investigation filed a death
certificate in which he gave the
cause as "suffocation.” and stated
that it was accidental. I
