Mrs. Birchnrd lives with two or
her dougliters in the rambling old
Birchard homestead in Main street.
She has one son and three daugh-
ters. Ralph W. Birchsrd. Mrs.
Stephen lioyt. wife of Dsrien's town
clerk; Miss Jennie Birchsrd and
Mrs. Thomas Fish or California.
Her husband. the late James Birch-
ard died about 11 years ago.

Mrs. Birchord was born in Nor-
walk. at the family home. on the
present sits of the Boston store. in
1831. She was the daughter of
Joshua. and Charity lestt Small-
horn.

of the mother-in-isw of President
Warren G. Harding. Mrs. Louise
Bouton, a former resident of New
Canaan. in 1860, just. before the
outbreak of. tho Ciiil War. Mrs.
Birchard met President Abraham
Lincoln. while on a. \isit to Wash-
ington.
