Just back from a winter spent in Florida, lam more than ever convinc-
ed that a city like Norwalk, so near New York, is capable of very great de-
velopment. '
Many cities in Florida, much smaller than N orwalk, have miles of wide
and well ._ paved‘. streets. I believe that well paved streets, more than any
other single factor, contribute to the growth of a city.
In a section where automobiling is so general it is important that our
streets 'be put in first class condition and kept that way. This will attract
not only heme-seekers, but manufacturers. .
Florida cities are offering to home -seekers all k i n d s of inducements
through Chambers of Commerce. Every Florida Chamber of Commerce is
a well financed and equipped organization. The secretaries are prepared to
give, information and statistics on all subjects. Each is a publicity expert
working in behalf of his city. This advertising tends to build- up a com-
munity.
Briefly, my thoughts in regard to N orwalk’s future are this: If every
business man will join the local Board of Trade, financing it to at least $25
per annum, ybu will see a most unusual growth here before two years have
gone by. Not only is this plan being followed nationally, but in the two cities
adjpining-ours—Bridgeport and Stats ford.
There are thousands of visitors from all over the metropolitan territory
. at Roton Point Park every summer. if even a small percentage of them were
' made to realize the charming city north of the park, many could be induced
to move their families or business to this city. ,
Neville Bailey, general manager of the Park, has, I believe, ofi‘ered to
erect hr the city a large sign in the park to draw visitors, attention to Nor-
walk’s many advantages. I hope the city will take advantage of this.
If Miami or any other Florida cit y‘had as many visitbrs yearly at its
.‘amugement parks, as we have, there would be a corps of real estate agate
there to sell them the theory of making their homes" nearby.
.We should all take advantage of every opportunity to boost the city, not
cmly conv'ersationally, but by expending our time and money. Then we will
soon become one of the most important communities near New York.
