mates, radio enthusiasts delved
down into prosperous nurses to the
amount of $450,000,000 last year.
an increase of 20 per cent over the
$350,000,000 mark for 1024.
The annual trend of expenditure."
for radio apparatus in the United
States. has been sharply upward,
starting at approximately 82.000.000
in 1920 and rising to the anticipa- ‘
ted sum of $580,000,000 for 1020.
The year just passed shows that ra-
dio buyers spent more in 1925 than
in :any previous year.
Still Few Sets.
The U. S. Department of Com-
merce estimates that there are ap-
proximately 4.250.000 radio sets in
use in this country. Assuming 25
million homes in the United States.
the figures. however, point out that
dilly one honto on six has been ra~
dio equipped. ..
Considering these figures, obvious-
ly the saturation point has been far
from reached, there being nearly 80
per cent. of American homes which
have not yet bought apparatus for
listening to broadcasts.
Analysis of radio sales shows that
although remote and far removed
from the immediate influence of the
centers of music. art and ammo-
mont. the most logical buyer of ra-
dio apparatus, the farmer. has not
reacted in the expected manner.
City heads.
Investigation indicates that out of
4.250.000 radio sets in homes in the
United States only a little over a
million, or 13 per cent. is to he
found‘on the farm. in view of the
inherent characteristics of radio. it
would be logical to assume that the
remote tiller of the soil would be
among the foremost to grasp the
advantages of the modern magic
Which obviously fills no apparent
need inrural districts. However. the
statistics point out that approxi-
mately but 9 per cent. of the total
number of farms in this country
have adopted radio to home use.
