Mr. Levin was born in County

Sir John French. He came to this
country at an early age and settled
in Bridgeport where for several
years he was employed by P. T.
Barnum. Later he entered business
for himself. and. until retirement

Each firm received two carloads.

The use of borrowed marker plates
or' other improper markers on auto.
mobiles resulted in the suspeslon of
thirty-eight operators' licenses by
the state motor vehicle department
during the past year. Transferring
number plates from one car to an:
other. at convenience .ls a practice
with which the department deals
severely. and there were seventeen
such cases in 1925. Seven who
loaned licenses for that purpose were
also suspended. .
Thirteen operators lost their li-
census. for varying periods. for driv-
ing cars equipped with otherwise im-
proper markers. Only a few of these
cases of car owners who did so in an
attempt to avoind registration en.
tirely. in most. cases. the our own-
ers had lost one of their markers
and had been content to prepare a
substitute of cardboard or other ma-
terial. The state lent allows car
owners to use such substitute mark-
ers for twenty-four hours in the
event of the original markers being
lcst .mutilnted or illegible. it re.
quires the owner. however. to apply
to the department under oath for
new number 'plates and surrender
the plate which remains on his car.
unless both of the registered plates
have been lost. it is when automo-
bllists put off their registrations for
the substitute plates and continue to
drive with the temporary devices on
their cars that they are called to no-
cases. the owner‘s license is usually
suspended for his failure to comply
with the license law.
