ents of New England are strongly
opposed to the practice of smoking
among their daughters at college is
the conclusion drawn from there-
suits of a questionnaire sent to 675
parents of students at the Boston
University-mellow» of. Practical Arts
Davis. the latter announced today.

piied when the last ilgurps were
drawn up. and of these only one had
failed to take it stand vehemently
against smoking by college girls. The
lone dissenter wrote that it was not
a questi0n of girls' smoking. but of
eitherboys or girls being permitted
to smoke. . The writer felt that for
girls to smoke was no Worse than
tor boys.
Dean Davis' referendum among the
parents of the students or the Col-
‘ lege of Practical Arts and Letters is
the first undertaken by any college

referendum was starte Dean Davis
announced that the rule against
smoking at the college would not be
abrogated no matter how the parents
voted. ‘Smoking by women students
is prohibited at the other depart-
