The Twins helped Santa Claus
and the Toy Maker to stuff all the
toys into Santa's big toy bag.

It was surprising just how much
that big hug did hold! No matter

' how much they put in. there always

seemed to be room for more.
Drums, horns. dolls, Jack-in-the-
boxes. blocks. games, skates, lambs.
wagons. cars. engines,‘and even sleds
and tricycles.

"Ho, ho. ho!" chuckled Santa
Claus. "rhis is going to be the best
Christmas ever! The very best! I
knew there was no use in worrying.
There never is. Worrying is all
foolishness. Here I am, allover my
cold. and everything! Not a thing to
worry about."

At that minute. the Toy Maker
came along and remarked. “Say.
Mister Claus. I can’t. find the candy-
oules tor the Christmas trees any-
where. l’ve looked nod looked, and
either I'm blind or they are not here.
Nan a candy-cane can I see."

"That‘s tunny!" said Santa Claus.
"I told the Candy Man to hare the
candy-canes right here at the North
Pole not a minute later than twelve
o'clock today. I told him not to send
them before that because they are so
easily broken. and I always pack
than: last. anyway. Are you perrcct-
ly sure they aren't here 7"

'Partectly sure!" said ”the Toy
Maker. positively. ~

"Did you ask Mrs. Claus it they
were in the kitchen!" asked Santa
Claus, anxiously. _

“Yes. sir." said the Toy Maker.
"They aren't there. and they are not
in the “yahoo. or anywhere."

"Well. weu!” Santa Claus. "Just

when I think all our troubles are
over. they seem to begin again. But

Don't worry."

Then he turned to the Twins.
“Will you please get Inch 0' Pic to
come here?” he said.

"I‘m here already." said that little
elf jumping down from the window
sill Where he had been sitting. "I
came to tell you something. Mister
Claus. I saw that big box of candy
canes sitting on your front porch not
an hour ago. If they're not there
now they have been stolen and I
know who did it."

“Who '3” cried Santa Claus and the
Toy Maker and Nancy and Nick and
Mrs. Claus and cvel‘yhmiy.

“I was riding through the air on
my geese," said Inch 0’ Pic, "when
suddenly I noticed something stick-
ing out from behind one of the
Christmas trees. Then I noticed
some other things sticking out from
behind tho other Christmas trees. So
I looked Very, very closely. And ll
you please. air. they \x'vre noses.
Long noses! And the long noses be-
longed to those bull little goblins who
are always pestering ion "for candy.
There was C‘rookrl‘nono und Jiga-
blimp ,and Snip Scissors. and Twook-
anoso, and Comm Logs and all of
them.” ,

“Why didn't you tell me before?"
asked Santa Claus in surprise.

“I came as soon as i could," said
Inch 0' Pin. “but 1 was doing an
errand {or Mrs. Claus. I was .1 ’m;
to the store for some citron and cin-
namon to put in hrr llnm pudding."

"Very well. Inch 0‘ Pie, i‘ isn't
your fault." said Santa Claus kindly.
"But i nevcr will be able to i‘acethe
cr'ldrcn again. it i don't have candy.
canes for them on Christmas. We
shall have to get them back as soon
as we possibly can."

it will all came out again all right.
