by Judge Isaac Wolfe, to Mrs.
Emily Backcs of li’allingford. with
a decree of divorce for desertion.
This is the biggest alimony award
recorded in the Superior court here
and is the result of a. stipulation
made by the defendant when his
wife sued.
The divorce suit was not contested
and when the hearing was heard
before Judge Wolfe. the claims of
the petitioner were presented to the
court by counsel for the plaintiff.
Backes was a millionaire fireworks
manufacturer of \anlingtord.
The Backos' were married in
Meridcn. November 14. 1888. Backcs
is sixty years old and the couple
have two grown sons.
Backes. according to the testi-
mony. disappeared from his home
in Wallingford January 8. 19152, and

in the hearing, left Wallingford.
