Total in the Clubs
This Year
Nearly 3300.000 Will be mailed out
to residents of Norwalk from the lo-
cal banks this week.
This money is being paid out in
Christmas checks. which are due
members of the Christmas Clubs
conducted by the various banks of
the city.
The amount to be mailed out ac-
cording to the figures. received from
the banks is 298.365.
Some of the checks were mailed
to the club members from the banks
yesterday and others will go forward
in the mails this week or early next
week.
The South Norwalk Trust Com-
pany will send out tho largest
amount its checks amounting to
about $12.». 00“. This is a slight in-
crease over the amount given out
last year.
The remaining sum is divided
I among the clubs of the following
' banks of the city: The South Nor-
I walk Savings Bank, the Central
Fairticid Trust Company. the Nor-
‘ walk Savings Society, People’s Trust
Company. the National Bank of Nor-
walk and tho Falrfleld County Sav-
ings Bank.
The number of depositors in the
clubs this year was greatei than in
1924

‘ (AP). Counsel for Col. William
Mitchell failed today in a. spectacu-
lar attempt to unseat another mem
ber of the Mitchell court martial,
Major General William S. Graves.
After consulting in secret. the
court overruled the defense charges
3 that General Graves was interfering
.‘v with the cross examination of the
‘ prosecution witnesses and had dis-
played blas. The decision followed
another fiery altercation in open
court. arising from a. comment
made in an undertone by the Gener-
al regarding the method of Defense
Attorney Rep. Reid of Illinois. in his
questioning of witnesses.
When the lawyer made the ac-
cusation the General denied that he
had been interfering with the ques-
tioning or that he show any partial-
ity.
. ’ The president of the court. Major
I General Robert L. Home admonish-
ed the counsel: for both sides to de-
glut from "disgraceful wrangling"
I and to address the court and not
' each other. But Rep. Reid would
not be quieted. He lodged this for-
mal! protest against General Graves:
"I hereby challenge ' General
Grove! to sit longer as a member of
thil court for the reason that his
actions while in this court show that
he to not impartial. and that in jus-
tice and fairness to the accused.
General Graves should not longer be
permitted to sit as a member of this
court."

Tho slaying of George. Nye, 19 your
old boy was the climax of a "chil-
dren's" booze party, District. Attor-
ney McGeehan said today in an-
nouncing that Nye's chum. Gordon
Pirie has confessed to the killing.
'Pirie walked into the Bronx police
station shortly after midnight and
surrendered as the slayer of Nye.
whose battered body was found un-
der 8. bed in the? Pirie home by the
Killer’s sixteen year old sister. Mar-
garet.
Pirle was arrested charged with
homicide. after confessing at the
pleading of Violet Schmidt. a. friend
of the victim.
“Tell the truth. Gordon" she bog-
ged and Pixie told the District At.-
torney how he had smashed his
friend's skull with an ax, robbed his
pockets of $5.60 and had taken a
girl to thc’movlcs a few hours later.
"I just got the notion to kill him,"
the District Attorney quoted Pirle as
saying.
All the principals in the case are
minors, including a half a. dozen
young girls who were attending a
party with the men.

the matter of calling a special ses-
sion of the Texas legislature In de-

It was reported yesterday that she
had made an informal statement to
a. representative of the Baltimore
Sun to the effect that she would not
call a special session.
"Now get this straight." Fergu-
son said. “Governor Ferguson has

owned by a. Main street grocery
firm Policeman Jarvis Murray in~
vestigated the accident but no ar-
rests were made. Helen Wheeler and
her brother stepped in the path of
the cor according to the police.
They were taken to the office of Dr.
William J. Tracer. where it was
