NEW YORK, New, 28.—-(AP).
l'Kidnai'iping" the driver of a motor
truck. five robbers in Brooklyn to-
day escaped with a truck if if of
crude rubber, valued at $50,v . af-
ter they had bound and gagged the
driver and had taken him in an au-
tomobile to the Bronx. 15 miles
from the scene of the robbery, be-
fore they reiased him.
Although several pedestrians saw
the kidnapping and robbery and re-
‘Dorted the same to the police. the
holdup men escaped with the truck.
This was later found in another
section of Brooklyn. with the rubber
removed.
The drivgr was William McMan-
us. employed by the R. and L.
Trucking Company of Hoboken. N.
J.‘The police are closely checking
his story of the incident.

a. lunch room for 840 last night at
“ 11 P. M. in Bridgeport. His descrip-
tion is: American. 30. 5 ft. 10 in.
smooth face. long chin, medium
complexion. dark hair black shoes,
corduroy uniform. dark cap. When
the hold up was made he uscd’a
nickel plated revolver.

tors of the restaurant. his assistant
cook and a patron of the place to
hold up their hands.
The men themselves were not
searched. as the stick-up man mere-
ly leaned over the counter and rifl-
ed the cash register of its contents.
John Rollerl. 115 Alice street: his
assistant cook, Raymond Cornwall.
1440 Wood avenue. and a. customer
were in the restaurant about 11
o'clock when a tall man wearing a
corduroy suit entered. the shop. He
ordered all three men to throw up
their hands: He then moved over to
' the cash register. which is near the
door and emptied it. The exact am-
ount is not known,_but it is thought
that he took about $40.
_ The police were notified of the
affair but were unable to get any
idea. as to which way he went. It is
* thought. however, that he was on
foot and had walked up Middle
street toward Gold street. He was
without a mask. Rollerl said. and
appeared to be about 30 years old.

An ordinance passed by the Common
Council last July and adopted by the
traffic committee of that body on
October 13. providing for the en- '
forcement of traffic regulations as
to auto parking on city streets was
held to be invalid by Judge Samuel
Young of the City Court in a mem-
orandum filed today ‘
George M. Skene. an attorney
brought a. test castle" his machine
having been tagged for overtime
parking. He questioned the legality
of the ordinance. raising the ques-
tion as to whether or not the Com-
mon Council had exceeded its an.
thority fixing a. jail sentence in
addition to the fine.
Judge Young sustained the attor-
neys contention and further said
that even the fine was unreasonable
and tiie ordinance might be declared
invalid on that ground. ’
The question was also raised as to
the legality of the Common Council's
passing an ordinance for the en-
forcement of traffic regulations be-
fore the regulations were adopted.
Judge Young sustained the state on‘
this point. however.

Perry Avenue Man Is
Fined for Beating
Wi f e, Intoxication
and Breach of Peace
John Krysink of Perry avenue,
Norwalk, was fined 35 and costs on
each of the charges of assault. in-
toxication and breach of peace in
the uptown Court this morning by
Judge Freeman Light. Krysink was
arrested Thanksgiving Day by Con-
stable LoRoy Downs on complaint
of Mrs. Krysink. Judge Light also
lMposed a Jail sentence of 60 days.
but suspended the sentence on con-
dition that Krysing take a. pledge to
refrain from drinking for one year.
Mrs. Krysink told the court that
her husband punched her and she
exhibited several marks on her
head, neck and arms. This was the
second time that Kryslnk has been
in court. He-was arrested two years
ago for being intoxicated.

ed with drunkenness than with any
other offense. there being 390 held
on that charge. It was reported that
none were "strictly iemperate;"

350 were habitual drunkards; 783
had been in prison before. The av-
erage number in jail during the
year was 123.
The total receipts of the county
report were $348,179.45 during the
year with a balance of 826.698.19
after a. yearly expenditure of $321,-

and therefore a check for the
