very precise ideas and ideals con-
cerning the matter of smoking. in
the College Handbook. there are the
following rules:
Under the heading of “Smoking"
there is the rule stating that "no
member of the Student Government
association shall smoko while
der the jurisdiction of the associa-
tion.“ This rule may be further ex-
plained by a law under the hem-
ing of general rules: “A student is-
under student government authority
until she has left New London. hav-
ing signed out for overnight." How.
ever, there is an unwritten law that
a Connecticut College student rep-
resents her college no matter where
she may be: whether she be under
student government Jurisdiction or
not. and that her behavior will re-
fiect on her college. Whereas she
has a perfect right to smoke when
signed out for over night. it is an
unwritten principle that she docs
not.
