Dr. Anderson yesterday delivered
three strong addresses, the first at
the Kiwanis Club and two at the
Tabernacle on “'est avenue. The
afternoon sermon was on the it'\l
Exodus 21'; Bit, “.\nd thou shalt
command the children of lsrael. that
they bring thee pure olive oil beaten
for the light. to cause, the lamp to
burn always."
A long procession of men marched
from the Norwalk Methodist church
and filed into the 'l‘abcrnaclc at. ex-
actly 7:30 last evening while a good-
ly number already assembled gave
them hearty applause. There. were
a great many other men all over the
roorn, which was soon well tilled
with an enthusiastic ami apprecia~
tive host. There were delegations
irom Bible classes in the South Nor-
walk Baptist and Methndist churches
and a score and a. half from Green
' M. E. church. Bridgeport. with their
pastor. the Rev. Irving l.. Smith.
Beside the swinging song service,
and the. special song by the Chorus.
there was a solo by Mr liurtley and
a duet by Mr. llnrtley and Mr.
Grimes. Dr. Anderson's message
was a powerful appeal to every man
not to turn off. (‘hrist without, a fair
test. but to experience for himself
the power of the Master to comfort
. in sorrow. to help and >trcngthcn for
every task. and to give power over
bin. to save from sin and give joy

prove or disprove. If it is true it
becomes a step in the ever-ascend-

every century. There have been in
all generations them who could see
nothing in Jesus. while, at their
side. have been men and women of
kceii discerning mind. who have

rejoiced in certain knowledge of his
power. it is not. the mark of schol-
arship or good common sense to re-

in the, most careful and honest man-
ner. for human suffering and sor-
row are not trifling things. Sorrow
either softens or. hut-dens the heart.
If through the tender mercies of
God the heart is softened. then is
the sorrow a blessing to the soul.
and your song of victory will help
swell the ’nnthcms of the sky; but
if your heart grows harder. then are
you poor indeed. Sorrows carried
by your own strength become. can-
cers to cut away your soul. That is
the reason the world needs Christ.
