Pan Alley," where banging pianos
grind out the daily jazz grist of
America. there is much scurrying in
cobWebbod corners just now for the
long-forgotten compositions of a
song writer named J. J. _Walker.
These songs—some, of which
never lived to wear a cover—are
about to take on a value the exact
extent of which cannot be reck-
oned. for it seems that this Walker
person is likely to be the next
mayor of New York. He has cap-
tured the Democratic nomination.
and New York is notoriously loud
at Democrats.
Also it is fond of music. whether
this be from the hand~organ oi‘ Ple-
tro Fugasi, the jazz stick of White-
man or the baton or a. Metropolitan
concert maestro.
7 And that's where the romantic
story comes in of the rise or the
greatest citys prospective mayor.
Sentimental strains of old ballads
waft through his life story; love
tunes of yesteryear gave him his
start in life. introduced him to the
‘ wife of a long and happy marriage
and launched him on a political ca-
reer that grows steadily brighter.
