at 3:80 o'clock in the afternoon. was
made by Officer Human since his
appointment. Fred Etnler, of 414
Allegheny street. Huntington. Pa; a
railway mail clerk, he charged with
driving through town at 45 miles an
hour. He was released and his
charge nolled on payment of $22.3
At 1050 o'clock last night William
Batter, a salesman of 840 Howard
avenue, Bridgeport. was arrested
when it is alleged he hit 54 miles
an hour. His case will come up for
trial September 14. .

Chief of Police Harry Smith is
working on the case, and at mid-
night last night was cross-examin-
ing a family in an effort to learn
the identity of the man, who fled
from the McMillan garden when the
neighbors were aroused hv Mrs. Mc-
Millan's screams.
Today came a report that a man
in in town had some knowledge
that would be of value. and Chief
Smith will examine him today.

Patrolman Chester Fanning will
return to duty tomorrow.
After being suspended for ' three
days. he was examined last night by
the Police Commissioner, who re-
turned him to duty without any
,comment.
None today would give any lea-
8on for Fannings suspension. and
the incident is shrouded in secrecy.
What the officer did to cause his
suspension is now a closed book.
Chief of Police Harry Smith would

yond admitting that Fanning would

Bathcrs at Roton Point were given
an exhibition of real distance swim-
ming yesterdu ynfternoon when Sam-
uel Driver of Bridgeport. and Miss
Caroline Bennett of Boston. Mass,
swam to Green's Reef Light and
back for t'xorlcse. Both swimmers
donned goggles for the swim and
were unaccompanied by a boat. The
water was choppy, making the swim
a difficult one. A good tide was
running in. The pair completed the
swim about the Light without stop-
ping. but were lost to sight from
shore in tho breakers about the reef
for pm". or their Journey. They made
the three-mile trip, against-the tide
in bot htheir lacks, in a. little over
two horus. Sum Driver is well
known along the Sound cities as a
long distance swimmer. and gave an
exhibition swim at the Boston Light
four weeks ago. when Robert Pater.
son. also of Bridgeport. captured the
Hub classic. He made the Boston
swim in seven hours and thirty min-
utes. Last Sunday Driver swam
from Bridgeport to Charles Island.
and will attempt to swim from.
Pleasure Beach to Savin Rock. a dis-
lance of twenty miles. this Sundys.
Miss Bennett. whose home is in Bos-
ton, has won considerable fame in
Canadian swimming circles, where
she has completed in international
meets.

The fireworks at the Point last
night were extra good. lasting a full
half hour. Several thousand per-
sons witnessed the celebration. which
was the best or the year. Yester-
day was a, goo dday at the Point,
nine bus loads from New York and
Ridge-wood rolling into the park un-
announced. .

The week-end will see several ex-
cursions as the wind-up of the sea-
son. The New York Sun Club will
sponsor its annual outing this Sun-
day, and the biggest excursion in
several weeks is looked for. The
Sirius will bring the newspapermen
to the Point. .
