STRATFORD. Sept. 8.—Mrs. Bar-
bara Schreiber. fifty-five. 418 Cor-
nelia street. Brooklyn. N. Y.. was
killed shortly before 5 o'clock yes-
terday afternoon when an automo-
bile in which she was a passenger.
skidded on the west \pavement in
front of St. Michael's cemetery. and
crashed broadside into the front of
a Paradise Green trolley car ap-
proaching from the opposite direc-
tion. Mrs. Sohrelber's neck was
broken.
Car Is Wrecked.
John Schrcibcr. son of the wo-
man vl'ho was fatally injured. was
driving the automobile. The trolley
car was operated by Motorman C. .1.
Johnson 563 Carroll avenue. Bridge-
port.
Schreiber. driver of the automo-
bilc. escaped serious injury. but two
other occupants ”of the auto. besides
his mother. were hurt. His sister.
Barbara. eighteen. and another rela-
tive, Mrs. Margaret Abert. fifty-sov-
en, 1120 Willowby avenue, Brook-
lyn, were removed to Bridgeport
hospital in the Stratford ambulance-
pstrol. Miss Schrelber is in a cri-
tical condition.
The accident occurred at the spot
where an automobile driven by Ste-
phen N. Boothe of Putney Gardens
struck and fatally injured Pelegrino
Pellachio, 64 Goodwin street on
August 25 last. .
The automobile and trolley came
together with a crash that could be
heard hundreds of feet away. The
window in the front of the trolley
car was broken. but there was no
panic on the car. The occupants of
the automobile were thrown from
their seats by the force of the col-
lision. as the impact bent the frame-
work of the machine and demolish-
ed the wheels.
' Dies in Hospital.‘
Every available inch of space in
the touring car was filled with cans
of berries and autumn fruits which
the occupants were taking back to
New York following their stay in
the country. The berries. fruit and
personal ‘effects of the occupants of
the cargwere strewn about the road
when the automobile was demolish-
ed. I
When the ambulance arrived on
the scene it could not be ascertained
whether Mrs. Schrelbcr was already
dead. or merely injured. She was
lifted into the ambulance with the
others and rushed to the hospital.
She was dead on arrival there. Her
body was placed in the hospital
mortuary room to await examina-
tion by the medical examiner.
Schreiber. driver of the car. and
Johnson. motorman of the troll/y.
are being questioned by the police,
and it is planned to hold them for
examination by the coroner. Wheth-
er eitherof them will have to stand
trial for manslaughter. will depend
upon the finding made in the case
by Coroner John J. Phelan.

MURRAY HILL. N. J., Sept. 7.—
The idol of this little country town
is gone. The village hero. who was
everything that every kid in the
place wanted to be. has been taken
away. And Murray Hill can't be-
lieve it.
Murray Hill knew about it when
the. station agent sent a. man to the
home of August Mazzucco with a
telegram. anzucco. a. bent, crip-
pled little Italian. read:
“The Bureau of Navigation ex-
ceedingly regrets to inform you that
your son. Celestino P. anzucco, av-
iation machinist's mate, first class.
U. S. N.. was killed Sept. 2. 1925.
in an accident to the U. S. S. Shen-
andoah."
In the great tragedy of the disas-
ter to the dirigible and the destruc-
tion of. more than a dozen men, this
may seem like a minor incident. But
not to Murray Hill.
Mazzucco. senior, is hopelessly
crippled—has been. for years. Ce-
lestlno Mazzucco, the black-haired.
smiling young sailor, was the sole
support of the family. which includes
Mrs. Muzzucco and a 15-year-old sis-
ter of the dead man. Caroline.
The little home the family oc‘cu-
pies is mortgaged. heavily. The
Government insurance carried‘ by
young Mazzucco will just about take
care of that. And then—well. what
the Mazzucco family faces isn't cx-
aciy pleasant to think about.

Celestine Mazzucco joined the
Navy at the age of 16. He was in
his early thirties when the Shenan-
doah began its last trip. He had
been a member of the dirigible's
crew eier since she was built,.and
the town was proud of him.
But the town's pride didn’t rest
solely upon his helping fly the big-
gest arishlp in the world. Nor on
the fact that he had been on the
crew of the Leviathan when that
boat was a transport during the war.
Nor even on the fact that ever since
he was 16 he had sent all but a
small part of his monthly earnings
home to support his father and
mother. .
“That boy was just right," said
one of the townsfolk. "He was a
sort of model foriall the kids in
town. He never booted or chased
the girls or anything like that. He
was everybody's friend and he al-
ways had a smile for all of us. I
just can't understand why a boy like
that had to go.”
Perhaps you can get a notion of
the sort of man Mazzucco was from
the fact that everybody speaks of
him. yet as "the boy."
