Seven towns in Fairiield county
find themselves unable to collect.

$110,247.81 for work which they
financed on stateeid roads from
1017 to the present time. Twenty-
nine towns in the state are affected
because in the last session of the
General Assembly. no appropriation
for state-aid work was made avail-
able.
It is planned by the State High-
way department to submit the situa-
tion to the board of control. The
work Will! done under authority
granted by the statutes some or
which dates back for eight. years.
The law provides'that .towns hav-
ing grand lists of over one and one-
quarter million shall be re- imbursed
tor threequglrters of the cost. of
s‘taie- aid work and tor those with
grand lists less than that amount
seven-eighis of the cost should be
borne by the state.
The normal appropriation for this
work by sessions of the Legislature
has been $1.000.000 annually. The
maximum amount permitted for
towns is $10,000 annually. There-
fore the amount involved this year
aggregates 5290.000.
For work completed from 191'! to
1923, Stamford leads the list in‘ the
amount owed with $33,032.43. other
towns in the county are Norwalk,
$25,262.66: Trumbull. $6,078.“;
$6,173.21 and Greenwich.
