next titbit on the entertainment
committee’s program will be the
Horse Race Dance to be held a

land will be the jockeys in a. novel
race. They will ride "horses" nam-

There are few, if any. Rowayton

great extent, by the ban on the oys-
ter and clam grounds which lie with-
in the dead line. Grounds which
come under this ban ‘lie between
Keyscr's Island and Grassy Ham-
mock. and. as far as can be learned
no oystermcn in this town Owns oys-
ter or clam grounds cast or Kcyscr's
Island. The law requires all oyster
and clam grounds to be inspected
yearly. and it is regarded as unfor-
tunate that the ban has closed one
of the best all-year-round markets,
to the oyster and clam men. who
handle small quantities of these shell
fish.
The ban in no way affects the not.
uretl growth grounds around the
Norwalk islands, as these beds all
lie outside the dead line. Fine sets
have been reported on the natural
growth beds at Stony Creek. New
Haven, Bridgeport, Soutliport, and
on the beds off the mouth of Five
Mile River. Activity is shown all
along the] river, captains of sloops
are working'iiard trying to get their
boats in commission by September

setbacks in the past few years and.

of families in Rowayton depends
upon the condition of the set on the
natural beds. it is hoped this will

Noi'walk store-keepers that two
men, representing themselves to be
agents for the League for Light
Wine and Beer. with headquarters
at \VIISIIIIISIOD, i). (3.. tried to col-
lcct money in the Third District yes-
terday. The two men, both color-
ed, covered the iriast avenue and
Vim Znndt street stores with peti-
tions. asking for an amendment to
the l'niicd States Constitution. mak-
ing the sale of light wines and beers
lawful In some stores, the men
tiled to collect monev, and asked
I82 as a membership in the League
for Light Wine and Beers At cthei
stores. they merely got signatures
and went out. To the arguments
they advanced in favor of light
wines, saying that the l’i'ohlbtion
law was a law made by foreigners,
and was un-Ameriean. several store—
kecpers answered with vehcmence.
and in the case of M. l). Motley. 2:11
East avenue, they were ordered to
leave the store at once.
