the year at Gregory Point this aft-
ernoon. Considerable rivalry has
sprung up between the ilell lsland.
Harbor “View and Norwalk Country
Club teams. The Country Club
test lost' to Hell island 1-1 a week
ago. The Harbor View team has
lost to Bel island twice, 4-1 and
5—0. The match this afternoon
promises to be a. real struggle. The
Harbor View team will be composed
of Captain Norman Davis, Louis
and Ernest Buzaid and William H.
Woods, Jr. William Doyle, will play
in the doubles. The Country Club
team has as its lineup, Paul Ward,
Charles Ward. Charles Burns. and
Jack Van Buren. it is not known
whether Ray Van Buren can play at
present. In the match with Bell
island. young Ward was the only
Norwalk player to. win his match.
The encounter today will start at

week-days of the year at Calf Pas-
ture Beach. The afternoon tide
brought crowds to the shore. and
the bathing aceonlodatlons were all

Tomorrow will be Kiddies Day. when

sters will learn to swim and win the
coveted Beginner's Button under the
direction of the Life Guards. The
number who have passed the tests
so far is well over the 150 mark.

trolley station has been on display
in tho Dal-ion Post Office for a week
to advertise the attempt to raise the
final installment of the trolley fund.

this week preparing their budgets
for the various-departments. The
books for the fiscal year close Tues-
day. August 31. The completed
budgets will be given to the Board
of Finance for approval, after which
they will be published and then vot-
ed on at the annual town meeting
to be held on October isth.

'An accident on the post road in-
volving three cars yesterday morn-
ing resulted in fines of 525 for rock-
less drivlng: and two 55 fines for
breach ‘of the peace at ”the meeting
of the Town Court last night. A
truck operated by Anthony Ruop-
polio. 23. was passing over a hose.
llne at. the torn-up stretch of the
Post road at. 0:30 yesterday morn-
ing. Due to the quick stop made
by a truck in front, of it, and being
driven by I-luoppolo was unable to
give a signal of his intentions to
stop. As a result a car owned and
operated' by Edwin Larsen. of New
York city, collided with the rear of
lluoppolo's five-ton‘van. Ruoppolo
and Larsen were discussing the
collision when Deputy Sheriff '1‘. J.
Belt appeared. having been it wil-
ness‘ of the accident from his car
travelling in the opposite direction.
Ruoppolo, it was alleged in court.
resented Bell's interference, and
asked for his authority. When
Belt showed him his badge as De-
puty Sheriff of l-‘airfleld County. he
was informed by Ruoppolo that "it
wasn't any good in Darien." At
this point Carmine Amala and Paul
Urba entered the argument, and is
alleged to have used abusive lan-
guage to the officer. Both Were
found guilty on this point and fined
$5 apiece. Ruoppoio was hailed in-
to the police station following the
argument, and arrested by Officer
Terry Lambert. Urba and Amati:
were riding with Iluoppoio at the
time of the accident. Attorney
Chipnick of New Haven appeared
for the defendant, but failed to
prove that he had not been guilty
of reckless driving in failing to put
out. his hand on stopping. The
verbal battle between Belt and
Chapnicli in court caused consider-
able amusement. as Belt has been
driving 25 years. and resented being
told he knew nothing of automo-
blles.
