Town Meetings on record last night.
when in seven minutes it passed the
request-for 312.125 for changes to
the interior of the Town Hall.
After the call was read by Clark
Louis Jefferson, Joseph Peteriok of
Noroton Heights introduced the fol—
lowing motion:
"Resolved. that the appropriation
of $12,125 as made by the Board of
Finance, for alterations to' the Town
Hall building be approved; and be
it further resolved that the Select-
men he ,and they are hereby authr-
ized to borrow on the note or notes
of the Town as recommended by the
said Board of Finance. the amount
to be covered m the budget of
1926-26."
The motion's seconding by Charles
P. Itumpf, and passed and the nicot-
ing adjourned.
The contract for the work will be
lot by the Selectmen to John Tyler.

The good road through the town has
resulted in bones opening up u soon
as they hit the concrete. and contin- .
clog the speed with but a slight
check at the center.
Both state and local police have a
hard time making any arrests. as the
busses are well equipped with mir-
rors. and the~appsaranco of a unto
formed man on s. motor-cycle is
quickly noted and the speed cut down
just as long as the officer trails the
bus.
It is known that appeals have been
made directly to the bus companies
asking their cooperation, and warn-
ing them of.ths intention of the
Town to enforce the law.

Howard Good of Darisn has pur-
chased a 60 acre tract there. The
land with buildings, were sold to Mr.
Good by Walter Brown‘WiIson, of
Good Hill road. Good will take pos-

Rowayton 'avenuc on Wednes-
day after an enjoyable ‘ mo-
tor trip to Long Island. They
were gens three weeks and visited
many places of interest on the south
shore of Long Island. Durini the
trip they stopped at Quogue. South-
ampton, East Morichcs. Patchogus.
Riverhead. Baldwin and numerous
other well known places.
Mrs. Victor Waterbury of Rowsy-
ton avenue, formerly Miss Betty.
Douglas. daughter of Mr.,and Mrs.
Daniel Douglas of Rowayttin avo-
nue, is critically ill at the Norwalk
Hospital.

Veteran residents tell how Roway-
ton originally obtained ,its name
with a stary which was handed down
to them from their fathers. It seems
that about 38 years ago the village
was called Five Mile River. taken
from the long river which runs
through it. Later. the old 1ndlan
name Rowayton began to be favor-
ed and the first thing. they named.
the Post Office. was given that name.
The name grew in favor, they say.
and finally the towntook upon itself
the name of Rowayton in place of
Five Mile River. Reports are that
even new letters addressed to Five
‘Mile River would safely reach local
people.

Affair Is Called Good
Financial Success
The Dutch dinner which took
place last evening at the clubhouse
was a success both socially and
financially. With the co-operation
and enthusiasm of the residents. to-..
gethcr with the diligent work of Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Lurch and others, it
was one of the most enjoyable events
of the season. It is expected that
5125 at least will be cleared.
The supper began at ‘ about 6
o'clock. A real Dlitchsupper menu
had been prepared sauerkraut.

Miss Madeline Lurch sang "Some-
body Loves Me"; Mrs. Hanks ren-
dered beautiful contralto solos and
received much applause: M'ri. Ed-
ward E. Rinehart and Mrs. Edward
B. Bald gave a fine exhibition of
the slag dance. The Charleston was
done in a splendid manner by Mr.
Harry Hush. Mr. Barry Stevens
sang "Mother Machrce" and other
well known songs. which were
greatly appreciated. Miss Ruth Dei-
mar. who is a clever and accomplish-
ed dancer, gave a few oxhibiitons.
Mr. Al Lurch was the accompanist
at the piano and also gave many
compositions of his own.‘ There
were also a number. of other resi-
dents who contributed to the en-
.loyment of the evening with their
accomplishments. Great credit 'is
due those in charge for the splendid
way in which they worked for the
place at the .club house tomorrow
for the affair and many will com-
pste for'ths prises. All persons on-
tering the dance hall are requested
to be ln‘costums. Jack Miller and
his orchestra will furnish the music.

coming season of 1926. It was de-
cided to have the election at the

ginning. This will be an important
meeting of the club and all mem-
bers hays been urged to be present.
