winter threatens to thwart until

Miiian exploration party for land in
the unknown Polar section between
Alaska and the North Polo.
The far north's period of contin-
ual daylight comes to an end this
week, after which but a. limited time
for operations remain before the
Arctlce night closes in.
In view of these conditions. the
navy department has forwarded a
message to Lieutenant Commander
Byrd. in charge or the navy section
- of the expedition. directing him to
confer with Commander Donald B.
MacMilian as to the advisability of
5 confining activities of the air unit

the remaining time available.
A reply to this message is hardly
expected today as it is thought at
the department here that seine time
will be taken in considering the
matter.
