States Senator Hiram Bingbam
spent yesterday in this city and vi-
cinity as the guest of President Jo-
seph W. Alsop ot the Connecticut
Valley Tobacco Association. Some
time was spent at the association
hcudquarters on state street where
the Senator saw the methods at the
business carried on there and in via-
its to tobacco warehouses here.
Senator Bingham is studying the
tobacco industry of the Connecticut
Valley that he may act with under-q
:stunding when the effort is made
to reduce the internal revenue taxes
on cigars at the next session of
Congress.
Mr. Alsop gave the Senator num-
crous details concerning the tobacco
crops in the valley and of the as-
sorted need for reducing revenue
taxes on cigars that more cigars
might be made. to be sold at five
