The owners' decision, announced

with a hearing July 20. when Taylor
sought his release. Mrs. Taylor stat-
ed her wealth was “between 8760.-
000 and 31,000,000." but that“. as
she got nothing from her usband.
she did not feel obliged to pay his

At that time Taylor lived in Milford,
where his father owned the property
now known as the Lauralton Hall. a
Catholic School for Girls. Taylor
met Miss Elder in New York and I.
close friendship developed and re-
sulted in Miss Elder taking up her
residence in Stratford on South Main
street.
. The relationship was the subject
of much local comment at the time
and she became known as Taylor's
common law wife. later prensing
"Mrs.” to her name.
This friendship lasted for some
time, although Mrs. Elder removed
to New Haven and later to Wood-
mont. It ended in 1905. shortly be-
fore the announcement of Taylor's
marriage to his cousin. Margaretta.
