Car Lands Unhurt
GREENWICH. July 27.-—Though
Norman Morrell ten ,‘months old.
Mr. and Mrs George Morrell

his mother y-esteiday afternoon out
onto the roadway from his parents'

when Hendrick Livingstone. seven-
.teen. son of Mr. and Mrs. M. LivinK-

which was entering the street from
the Field Club driveway. struck his
car and smashed the left rear wheel.
The child. who was lying on its
mother's lap. was thrown out of the
car by the impact and the sudden
listing of the machine. Upon being
l‘luhed up from the street. it was
found that no serious injuries had
been sustained. Mrs. Morrell re-
ceived a laceration .of the nose.
Livingstone. who was driving with-
out a license and also under age. was
placed under arrest.

There have been countless screen
fights since the first motion picture
thrilled adventurous hearts. but
what is said to be the most unusual
and thrilling fight of its kind ever
staged for the silent drama is found
in "The Crimson Runner." Hunt
Stromberg's new Priscilla Dean fea-
ture. which opens today at the
Rialto Theatre. It will be shown
tomorrow also.
Alon Hale and Ward Crane are
the participants in this encounter
and broad swords furnish the wea-
pons. The duel occurs in the midst
of the spectacular Bai Masque of
the story and some 1.200 "extras"
c..joyed the thrill of their lives when
these scenes were being recorded on
celluloid.
An ordinary duel with rapiers is
mere child's play compared to an en-
counter With broad swords. The
latter are not only heavy and un-
weildy. but their keen points and
dangerously sharp blades make
them formidable weapons indeed.
Such scenes as those shown in
'The Crimson Runner" cannot be
successfully faked. and both Ward
Crane and Alan Hale took a full
course of lessons in the art of broad-
sword dueiling before they attempt-
ed to film the scenes. Even such
precautions. however. failed to pre-
vent. a. number of minor casuallties
before the scenes were completed
to the satisfaction of director Tom
Formsn. .
“The Crimson Runner" is an orig-
inal story of post-war Vienna by
Harvey Gates .who wrote "Merry go
Round" and "The Wildcat of Paris."

Rain yesterday and Saturday
slightly lowered the expected week-
end attendance. but large crowds
turned out in the evening and late
afternoon. The unfavorable weath-
er was the cause of an altered
steam-boat schedule. The Bell Is-
land. which ordinarily docks at 1
o'clock with the largest single crowd
held off until 5 o‘clock. This gave
the passengers fair weather in the
evening. The Seagate, the smaller
of the two boats. came at noon with
only a fair crowd aboard.

is going to wed Neely Edwards, film
comedian. around Christmas time.
In the meantime Marguerite will be
occupied in re-establishing herself
on the screen she deserted to play
the solitary role of wife and mother
in James Cruze's home.
There was time when Marguerite
and Jimmie were accounted the
happiest married couple in Holly-
wood. They lived in a pretty little
house with their daughter. Julie.
and kept out of the kind of doinzs
that have given Hollywood a boil

A pocket-book was stolen ' from
Ed Stott's beach stand yesterday and
was made off with before helpers at
the stand could chase the thief. The
person is known, however, and Stott
is waiting for the return of the wal-
let to the Roton Point Park office
before prosecuting.

Collapses After Mass
NEW HAVEN. July 27.—The Rev.
Jeremiah Curtln. pastor of St. Law-
rence R. C.‘ church. West Haven,
collapsed at the close of a celebra-
tion of mass yesterday and is now
under the care of a. doctor with the
prospect of being under his care for
some time. It was Father Curtln's
second service and he had given no
indication that his health was any-
thing other than normal.
Worshippers at. this service said
at its conclusion that they noticed
that the pastor “did dot seem to be
acting just right" and seemed to be
making a supreme effort to keep up.
it was also noticed that the service
was somewhat shorter than usual.
Father Curtin. however. kept control
of himself and was able to finish the
ritual and pronounce the benedic-
tion, Upon reaching the sacristy.
