treated somewhat di erently.

A Modern Adaptation of the
Dutch Colonial Style

forms an outdoor vestibule for the en-
trance to the large living room which
greets'you with its cheerful fireplace.
The opening into the dining room may
be widened. if desired. to turn almost
the entire iirst iioor into one room.
The kitchen is very practical and
compactly arranged. The pantryette,
with its opening to the dining room
sideboard, the door to the, basement
stairs, and the passage through the
coat closet to the front door give the
kitchen a strategic position in the plan.
A Colonial stairway leads from the
living room to the second floor with its
bath and four bedrooms, all with cross-
ventilation and light.
The basement is grovided with
. laundry, heater. coal ins. vegetable
cellar and storage rooms. The ceiling
heights are. first floor 3 feet 9 inches,
second floor 8 feet, and the content is
23.100 cubic feet.
By extending the entry porch a few
feet, a sleeping porch could be installed

The building industry has rounded
into the second half of the 1925 peri.
od with a. momentum which. at the
moment. presents every indication of
blacing the year's construction total
far ahead of the record-breaking vol-
ume of 1921. For the first six
months of the year the gain through-
out the country was 5 per cent. over
the same period in 1024. when, it
will be remembered. there was a
gain of 8 per cent. over the first half
of 1923.
According to the national monthly
building survery of S. W. Strnus &
Co.. from which these figures were
obtained. the June gain in permits
issued and plans tiled in the 370 lead-
ing cities and towns of the country
was 83 per cent. over .lune. 19:34.
The general tendency of building
activities is distinctly upward at the
present time. It will he recalled that
In January there was a loss of 3.5
per cent: in February. 7 per cent:
and in March. 13 per cent. The dis-
tinct upturn began with April. when
there was a gain of 33 per cent. over
April. 1924. In May the gain was 16
per cent.. so that with the June in-
crease of 33 per cent. there was an
average monthly gain during the sec-
ond quarter or 2? per cent.
