. Mr. Seattle was one of the oldest
members at the Connecticut bar in
length of service and the oldest prao
tlcing member of the Windham
county her having been admitted 55
years ago next month. lie was dealt
iico continuously since 1803.
Two generations and Mr. Scaris
was one of the active men in Re-
publican politics in the state and a
county leader known to electors in
every town in eastern Connecticut.
Political perferment did not, appeal
strongly to him and while many of-
fices were open, he accepted but few
from time to time. Forty years ago
he declined an appointment to the
Superior court bench. and also in
those days he declined the oppor-
tunltlca for nomination to Congress
and did not encourage his friends
who sought to have him nominated
for governor.

from Thompson in 1871 and 1886. In
one term. during the administration

from the 28th district. in 1909-10,
and was chairman of the committee
on the Judiciary and party leader in
upper branch.
Mr. Senrls was s; native-of Porno
fret. being born March 26. 1846.
Besides his wife only one 'other
near relative survives: a. nephew,
Searls Dearington, a. student at Yale
who spends his vacation at the Searis
home.

Pepe, who today pleaded guilty to
arson. was sentenced yesterday to
state's prison for from t’wo to six
years on four out of nine counts. “
Pepe. with Adolph Pspale was taken
into custody last April 25,-when Ber.

the case. They were then. charged
with burning a barn on a farm near
Derby. When the arrest was made a
bench warrant was sworn out, and
the evidence against them kept avsc-
crot until a hearing was given the

Jan. 4. 1925. They were discharged
at the time as the evidence against

last Thursday after which they were
released under 85, 000 bonds and
they were to have been tried on July
23, Sergeant Virelil after conferring
Monday night with States Attorney
Ailing placed them under arrest peso

When they were arraigned in court
they pleaded guilty and were sen-
tenced as follows: Cntalnno. from
one to two years; Charmello. from
one year to 18 months. and Capo-
