public by the girl's mother. Mrs.
Joseph Bryce. on a receipt of d tele-
gram saying: “Ralph and I cum-

The Point was overrun with chil-
dren yesterday. Children on the
merry-go-round, the whip. the
swings. the picnic groves. the bench.
All other excursions were forgotten
by thcpnrk employee who made The
Evening Sentinel Klddies' Day a big
success.
The censors on the beach turned
a kindly eye the other way when
dozens of small children found great
delight in tearing loose in the water
in bathing suits or near bathing
units.
The opinion of all nos: "This is
the kids' day, so why not let them
do Justwhnt they want to'.‘ They
aren‘t doing any harm."
When the kiddies chose to romp
on the bench with improvised bati-
ing suits. or race over steps and
grows usually kept clear of children.
no one objected. 'i‘hat their faith in
the youngsters was not misplaced

scratch or injury was reported by

"The British Valentino." a new
matinee idol for movie fans. He is
Jameson Thomas. who appears so
Omar. the desert lover in “Chu
Chin Chow." the English version of
the world-famous spectacle that. ran
five years in London and three in
America. "C‘bu Chin Chow will be
shown at the Palace today and to-
morrow. It opened yesterday.
The casting or Mr. 'rn‘omus for
this role provides an interesting
story of theatrical. life. He had
spent several years in the provinces
without getting very far. (“Pro-
vinces" in England includes all the
territory outside of. London.) A
few weeks before the picture“ was
started he was a member of a. tour-
ing company playing at the time at
Bedford. a small seaport city.
The w'eathcr was at its worst.
snow and sleet doing their utmost
to kill the business and place the
whole company in danger of being
stranded. Herbert Wilcox. who
adopted and directed "Chu Chin
Chow." was at that moment. on the
search for an actor to play the part
of Omar. and rather despaircd of
finding such a. typo in England.
He was visiting Redford and
dropped in the theatre on a Satur-
day night. The house was nearly
(imply .nnd Mr. Wilcox was pre-
pared to spend a dismal evening.
But Jameson Thomas was in the
cast. and when the director saw
him he knew the quest for an Omar
had been successfully terminated.
So Thomas was given a contract.
and his first big chance. plnylngthe
opposite role to Belly Blythe. who
is featured in the production. As d
result he is hailed in England. and
now in America. as the newest or
the rising young romantic stars.

earth and in heaven. for he has
seen his mother's heart broken by
an embezzling husband and has imd
his fiancee stolen from him by his
best friend almost on the eve of his
wedding day: it is the story of a
woman hunted down charged with
the murder of her brother.
She too has lost all faith in man
but there still burns within her the
spark of trust in the divine. In the
woods of Northern Canada. fate
brings the two together—the cynic
and the hunted; the scoffer and the
believer. Then commences at dra-
matic clash of wills with lover hov-
ering near it. all coming to an im~
presslve climax within the walls of
the old cathedral of St. Anne do
Beaupse.
"A Woman's Faith" is the screen
adaptation of Clarence Burlington
Kellsnd's famous "Miracle" which
ran as a serial in the Ladies' Home
Journal. It was produced under
the direction of Edward Laemmle
who spent several weeks at the ca-
thedral making copies of its paint-
ings. status and famous stairway.
In addition to Miss Rubens and
Mr. Murmont. the cast includes
Jean Hersholt. Hughle Mack. Andre
de Bet-anger. Zasu Pitts. Cesare
Oravlna. Rose ltosanovu. William
H. Turner and Calvin Roberts.

adage about an ill wind proves its
truth every once in a while. and of
occasion this proof is demonstrated
through motion picture history.
A case in point. where one per
son benefited by the misfortune of
another is that of Marion Nixon.
leading woman with Hoot Gibson.
star of “The Saddle Hawk." Univers.
al production. to be screened in the
Palace Theater next Thursday. Fri-
day and Saturday.
At the time in question. Miss
Nixon had no idea of entering mo-
tion pictures. She was a profes-
sional dancer in Minneapolis. and
had appeared in many prologue. in
the theaters of that city and conse~
quently was well known to the
managers.
One week a vaudeville actrou.
- West bound. became ill and, when
it was known that she would not
recover in lime to make the next
date. :1 substitute was sought; the
scorch ending with the selection of
Miss Nixon.
in time the act reached Los An-
gcles and one night it was wit-
ncssed by a mot on picture director.
He umlurcntly was much impressed
by the screen possibilities of Miss
Nixon. He soon induced her to sub.
mlt to a screcn test. The result was
so favorable he immediately offered
her a, contract.
Miss Nixon refused to leave the
act at that time. but did agree to
return to Hollywood after the act
