Shore Front Park has an interest-
ing history. Bur-k in 1803 Judah
Island, as it was then known, was
sold for $100. Some fifty years
later it was purchased by Andrew J.
Garvey of Tweed Ring fame and for
him4the mansion was built. which
is today propoaed as 11. club house
tor the community. Later it was
bought from Garvey by Knapp &
Fitch. who in turn sold it to Com-
modore Francis Burritx.
Finally it became the home of
the late John McMullen. under
whose loving care the three acre is-
land was developed by dredging
and tilling into the present thirty-
ona acre tract and it was Joined to
the mainland.
Mr. McMullen also built the mag-
niticent seawull which so enhances.
the property today at an estimated
cost of $35,000.00 and besides, exe-
cuted extensive gardening plans.
The years of horticultural work of
its former owner are responsible
for the present park~like appear-
ance of the property. The rare
shrubs and trees, the barberry, box,
rhododendron nnd maples are a liv-
ing monument to John . McMullen.
