The rate at which people are being
killed by automobiles continues to
that
New York city was able to report a
reduction for the month of May
from 101 last warm at this year.

cent over the same period in 1924.
according to the statisticians ot the
Metropolitan Life Insurance Com-
pany. The percentage is obtained
from the deaths among sixteen mil-
lion industrial policy holders which
group is an indicative cross-section
of the entire industrial population.
The six per cent increase has been
recorded also. in spi o of a. sharp

and February. when storms and
snow reduced the volume and speed
of traftlc.
The. death rate for 1924 was 16.0
for each 100,000 0! population ac-
cording to the Metropolitan experi-

1923 when the rate was 15.4. Mor-
tality front this cause has doubled
since 1916. tripled since 1915. quad-
rupled since 1013 and increased sev-
cn-lold since, 1911.
Automobile fatalities still stand as
the tarmuost cause of accidental
death. causing four times as many
deaths as railroad accidents. and
more. than twice as many as do ac-
cidental falls or accidental drown-
lugs.
