Trumbull announced yesterday that
he has offered to Senator Frederid
C. Walcott of Norfolk the first ap-
pointment to the new state water
commission created by the recent
session of the )iegislature. Senator
Walcott has taken the matter under
advisement titid will notify the gov-
ernor of his decision upon his re-
turn from a Nova Scotlan fishing
trip.
The state water commission will
administer the new stream pollution
of purifying Connecticut waters. It. is
to consist f three members. one to
some six years another four years
and the third two years, with the
governor appointing one member for
a six year term at each succeeding
session of the Legislature.
Mr. Waleott has been offered the
long term now at the governor's dis-
posal. Although the law does not re-
quire it. the governor in tends to ap-
point a manufacturer as the second
member and a scientific man as the
third member. it is his plan. he said
yesterday. to ask the manufacturers
of the state to recommend several of
their number for consideration for
the second appointment.

plishcd so much good since its in-
ception in August. 1923. With its
second year of work closing atid new
officers taking charge for the third
ycar. it is interesting to note some
of the achievements of this body.
The. purpose of the Association. as
set. forth by one of the members. is
“lb keep the. town neat. and espe-
cially so the highways. and to beau»;
tilt}! and improve llarien."
The women began their work of
tidying the town by putting waste
paper receptacles at various points
iii the cotnniunily. Waste paper
and rubbish had fortnerly been
blown around the street. This was
alleviated by the first. move. The
next move was in making more com-
fortable the teacher's rest room. and
the association provided a couch for
the place.
In working with
the various

of its achievements was the grading
and beautifying the railroad em-
bankment. in conjunction with the

. Besides these. the association has
under way many projects for the
mutual benefit of residents. The

of the work has never been forgot-
