N. Y. and New Rochelle, N. Y., went
into effect last Monday.

(AP).-—~C. W. Peterson, manager of
the I‘armors' Produce Association
and author of the telegram to the
depaitniént of agriculture. advising
the department to “keep your mouth
shut" about the intended 1925 po-
tato acreage, said that he “did not
intend .to insult the department of
agriculture—4t: was just‘ the way I
,felt about the situation."
"You see." Mr. Peterson'sald. "it's
like this. The department of surl-
culture got out. circulars telling the
farmers that there would be about
aglx per cent decrease in potato
acreage this year.
“And the department said for the
farmers to plant more potatoes and
that‘s the trouble. They have plant-
ed so‘ many around‘here that; we
limo about a 10 per cent increase
over last year.
"That means we won't get; any-
thing for our potatoes. If the de-
partment of agriculture hadn't said
so much, the farmers wouldn't have
planted so many- potatoes."
