Sailors And Soap
Do you recall the splendid looking old sea captain at the wheel of his ship,a
striking picture of 1uddy health and contentment as it has appeared for many
years in high grade magazines?
Frederick V. Bowers, appearing with MacIntyre and Heath in The Ham Tree,
used to sing “Sailors Have Sweethearts 1n Every Port,” but he .never told Why.
Doubtless the reason was the same that made the old sea captain’ s contentment so
appa1ent and his complexion so attractive. It must have had to do with the soap
they used. There has been for many yea rs a soap with a name particularly attract-
ive to sailors and widely used by them. While it was first used chiefly by he-men the
ladies soon acquired the use of it along W1 th suffrage and other rights of which they
had been deprived too long.
We are discussing the subject becauSe Piggly Wiggly 13 going to sell the same
