with which this “gorgeousesf” of all
Georgeous Gloria's pictures has been
staged. '

The story is one of a. pretty little
flirt. who runs a laundry in a back
street in Paris. “Madame Sans Gene"
(Madam Devil May Care), they call
her because of the free and easy
manner in which she treats her cus-
tomers, rich and poor silkworm of
the latter being Napoleon. when the
Little Corporal was just—a. little
corporal. '

The French Revolution brings
about a. change in forming. Na-
the
throne of France. and. Catherine
Hubscher (Miss Swanson). now mar-
ried to Lefebvre, one of Napaleon's
sergeants. finds hérsclt a Duchess
With a. rightful place in the Court of
France, when the Emperor promotes
her husband to the rank of Marshal
0: France and bestows upon him the
title at Duke or Danzlg.

Bur. the Duck 88 is still the same
splt- -l‘ire Sans Gene and is looked
down upon by the snobbish ladies of
the court. but she is more than a
match for them all—imitating their
stiff bows and gestures to the am-
usement of the great Napoleon him-
self.

The remainder o! the picture is
taken up with the amusing manner
in which Sans Gene through her
wit and the aid of several unpaid
laundry bills stmightens out a. mar~
llal fit: between Napoleon and the
Empress and so establishes ‘herscli
more firmly than ever in the Em-
perors good gmces.

Innocence." UniversalJewel pro-

theatre. commencing today; with
Laura, La. Flame and ' Eugene
O’Brien being co-starred in this
adaptation of Pamela Wynnc‘s best

For a time the situation created
by the man's mistake was hmnor-
ous. Then it became . pathetic and
later was fraught with danger. for ‘
