Boston Globe.

A tong war in Chinatown means
little to thonvornge Amer-loan: he
doesn‘t know what it is all about.
The feud in Chinatown as all over
money and politics. There are two
big Chinese societies in the courtry.
the Hep Sing Tong and the On Le-
ong Tong. Each noclety tor the
put 20 years has tried to dominate
the entire Chinese policy of govern—
ment in this country. _

For the put 2 years the On
Leong Tong has rec in the lead
of. everything Chinese in the entire
country, because it included the big
merchants. the older men who came
to the United States no mere boys
and built up business. establishing a
reputation for honesty and fair deal-
ing. It was lea than n year ago that
the Hep Slug Tong decided that the
On Leong Tong had gone for enough
in the way of progress in this coun-
-try. ’

Election Day
I There was an election day all over
the country. Among Chinese it was
as important 1: the last election tor
President of the United States.
Throughout the entire country in
the Chinese colonies the Chinese
flag and red dragon were displayed
and all Chinese eligible to vote-—
and there must have been 40.090-
went to the polls. Police details were
on duty just like any State election.

. In Boston the election was held in ,

the Merchant! Exclunge Captain
Herbert W. Goodwin ot the La-
Grungo street station had a detail
or police on the door. No one but a
Chinese was allowed to enter the
building.

The Hep Sing Tong had the larg-
