It isn't very hard to build a vario—
coupler. even though. as frequently
is the case. the directions call for
two rotors—one in each end of the
secondary tuning unit.
However. the inexperienced be-
ginner. Judging from the questions
that come in to us, would like to
build a. set which would be as simple
as possible, and which would steer
clear of all rotors. All right: here‘s
tho circuit.

ble cotton covered wire.
A variable grid leak (R) with a
range of from about 5.000 ohms
minimum to around 10.000 or :0.-

ohms. and use that instead.

When the set is connectod tip. not
the tuning condenser “C" ,nt any
point on the scale. and see if you
can control oscillation with "(2-1".
You should be able to do IO. Then
move "C" up and down the whole
tuning range. If the not can't be
made to oscillate at the high wnv-
on by fiddling with “Col". then wind
more turns on the tickle:- untii on-
cillation can be secured. 0n the 0th-
or hand. if. When the condenser "C"
is at minimum the set can not be
brought out so! oscillation by manip-
ulatlon of "C- 1" the trouble is that
you limo too much tickler. and
turns should be taken off until os~
wound at one ‘end of the four-inch
tube. Then leave a. gap of three-i
cillation can be controlled at the
own end of the wavelength range.
