Councilmen Register Opposition to ReSolu-
tion on Pictures
A resolution providing for

the showing of Sunday moving
pictures in Stamford was last night approved at a meeting of
the Comm on
Council by a vote of 5 to 3. This vote followed the
informal ballot held last Saturday at which the people of the
city cast :1 vote of 1827 to 275 in favor of the showing of mov-
ing p11 turns on Sunday evenings between the hours of 7 p. m.

Plainvllle will be the second man by ,
that surname to advance automatic-
ally to the governor-ship of Connecti-
cut because at a vacancy occurring
in the executive office. and the sixth
lieutenanbgovemor to be no advanc-
ed. Jonathan Trumbull of Lebanon
became acting governor December 1.
1797 by the death of Governor Oliver
W’olcott ot Litchfleld. Trumbull was
elected to the office in his own right
at the expiration of the term he was
called upon to on out. and wall auc-
cessively re-eiectcd ten times. serv-
ing eleven years and eight montbo‘
until he. too. died in office August 7,
1309. The General Assembly ap-
pointed John Trendwell of Farming-
ton {or the remainder of the term.
Colonel Bingham will be the sec-
ond governor to have resigned the
office. Governor Thomas H Sey-
mour of Hartford was the first to
do so. resigning October 13,1353 to
accept an appointment as minister to
Russia. Lieutenant-Governor Charles
H. Pond served the remainder of his
term. but was not subsequently cinc-
ted in his own right.
