William J. Gamble may be char-
acterized as a. man who knows his
own business well. His firm is the
only one in town which retails stock
mill work and its growth in the past
five years testifies to the demand a
town the size of Nero all: has for it.
.Mr. Gamble came to this city
from Spring-
field, Mass. .At the old mill, former-
ly situated on the bank of the East
Norwalk Mill Pond. Mr. Gamble
learned from his uncle,‘ Leslie Gam-
ble. the art of making window
frames and doors. His uncle was
a well-known contractor, and he
taught his nephew the art or build—
ing houses. a knowledge which was
of value to Mr. Gamble in his later
capacity as inspector of the govern-
ment buildings. erected to house
government employes of Bridgeport
and \Vaterbury during the war.
When the war was over Mr. Gamble
severed his connections with the
government and took a position as
salesman with the Greenwich Sash

ing that he knew enough of the bus-
