tinuous stormy weather has caused
further postponement of the Amer-

Atlantic which sweeps north north-
west into Davis strait and serves as
a. highway for icebergs floating down
the Labrador current into the broad
ocean. The war airs from the
south, meeting the ice, cause dense
fogs almost constantly, making an
aerial crossing perilous except under
unusually favorable conditions. Ma-
rine reports place the fog occur-
rence as high as 60 per cent.

Unusual precautions have been
taken by the conveying naval squad-
ron to safeguard the birdmen on
this final and dangerous leg of their
homeward trans-Atlantic swing. No
less than six ships will be stationed
along the route, in constant commu-
nication and with an elaborate sys-
tem ot signalling to the aviators as
they pass.

VV'eather reports from each vessel
will be transmitted by wireless to
the l}. S. S. Milwaukee at lvigtut for
the information of Lieut. Lowell
Smith and his companions before
they take to the air.

As the planes proceed each vessel
will inform the aviators by signals
of the weather prospects ahead. one
flag meaning fair weather through~
out, two flags indicating changing
conditions, and a. blast of the whistle
warning of fog along the route.

The longest gap between the ships
will be 110 miles. The Milwaukee
will be at Ivigtut and then. in or-
der, to the west the destroyers Cogn-
lan. McFarland. Charles Ausburn
and Lawrence, with the cruiser
Richmond :5 miles from the Labra-
dor coast.

A message received by Rear Ad-
miral Magruder from Lieut. Smith
last night said the new engines' had

Labrador coast for today but the
storm passing east will probably
bring rain and wind at Ivigtut. 1n-
dications are that the weather will
clear up tomorrow on the Greenland
side of the water.
