country schools are. to be given
mid-winter vacations. with corrcsc
pondingly shorter summer vaca-
tions. is to be inaugurated in Clark
county schools this winter.
Prof. Paris Akin. superintendent
of county schools. in announcing
this departure from the usual per-
iod of instruction. declares that in
his opinion it will materially . in-
crease attendancc and insure the
country student a good education.
"The greatest trouble in rural
districts is that in winter. when
snow and ice are upon the ground.
the student often finds it impossible
to get to school." Prof. Akin said.
"Under the new plan. schools will
be closed during the worst winter
months."
Anot er feature pointed out was
that in teachers. who ordinarily
spend their vacations attending
summer schools. may now take ad-
vantage of the mid—winter vacation
and attend normal school then.
The Clark County schools under
the new plan opened Aug. 4 and will
continue in session five months.
