NEW HAVEN. Conn.. July 25.—A
crowd of excited. gesttculatlng credi-
tors of the bankrupt private bank or
Filseo Brothers, stormed the offices
of referee in bankruptcy Carleton E.
Hoadley yesterday at a. hearing on
the appointment of a trustee to wind
up the. affairs of the bank. which
decided to close after an investigation
by the state authorities. The de-
positors expected to receive payment
on their deposits. and loudly demand-
cd their money.
The crowd was quieted with dim-
culty after which Joseph E. Esposi-
to. who was named as trustee. under
a bond of 560.000 acting also as in-
terpreter. explained to them that an
offer or nearly seventy cents on the
dollar had been made by the bank~
rupts and that notice would be
sent to them when payments were
forthcoming. Esposito was placed
under a. $60.00 bond and the case ad.
Journed for three weeks.
The bank had liabilities of 892.000
and deposits included $68,000 gen-
eral funds. $8,000 in ltalian lire and
35.700 in Christmas Club tundl.

Prices Advanced
On Monday, July 21st. the Ford
Motor Company advanced the price
of Lincoln cars 8200 and Ford-
son tractors $75.
This price advance was evidently
found necessary in spite of the large-
ly increased sales record made by
these two divisions of the Ford
Company.
As many or the leading large
production manufacturers of motor
cars haVclound it advisable to ad-
vance prices recently, this action on
the part of Ford did not calse
much surprise to those connected
with the automotive industry.
There is now much speculation in
the automobilc world as to when or
how soon similar announcement
will be made by Ford on the other
Ford products.
It is (sit that this recent action of
the Ford Motor Company proves the
necessity for the upward trend of
prices now going onthroughout the
industry.
Brookhart Declines
to Back La Follette
DES MOINES. Iowa. July :5.—
Senator Smith ll’. Brookhart. Re-
publican, ot lowa. who is a candl-
dete for rccelectlon this fall. in re-
sponse to inquiry. announced that
he. will not support President Cool-
idge or Robert M. Lai-‘ollettc.
"I will not speak for either candl-
date." he said. “I will continue to
speak on the issues."
Senator Brookhsrt also an-
nounced to new-paper men that he
plans to wire President Coolidge de-
manding the calling or an extfa ses-
sion of Congress to enact the Me-
Nsry-Haugen bill.

Smith yesterday issued a formal re-
ply to the letter of \l'm. Randolph
Hearst. published in the. Sunday
morning editions of the Hearst New
York newspapers and which urged
the demoeratic of New York state
to work for the nomination of Lieut.
Gov. George R. Lunn for the party's
gubernational candidate in the pri-
minary campaign.
“I do not read any of Mr.
Hearst's papers." the Governor said
in his statement. “because they are
not. allowed in the Executive Mau-
slon or in any of the public offices
of the state. but, my attention has
been called to Sunday‘s edition be-
cause it contained a signed letter
from Mr. Hearst in which he tinder—

"day in court" before the Kiwanis
club in su-auield yesterday when
Harry M. Clark. master plumber and
Kiwanian, read i brief that set him

though he is in the front rank of
humanitarians who make it a good
old. healthy and happy world to live

his oft-quoted pamphlet of cracks
wise and otherwise. punsters always

castic over the within-the-law high-
waymsnship of the gouging plumber.
But all of this, said Plumbing Clark,
is "misleading and untrue."

out Mr. Clark. gets 81 an hour and
his employer. who sells his ’services
to patrons gets 81.50. as they do new.
