favorites. If the charge were true

good play nor is that former popular

theatrical stuff which serves but one

is natural. since Mr. Fields is an
incomparable comedian. They al-
ways do it. A good comedian is
spoiled in making a bad emotional
actor. and a. good "heaxy" is ruined
trying to develop a juvenile. Any-
how. except in the first act. which
represents one of tin-so popular song
shops in full action. with jazz or-
chestras rehearsing in one room. a
falscito near tenor in another, a.
couple of pianos in full blast else-
where, and general bedlam. there is
little to interest the average audi-
ence. It is not the worst play on
Broadway, but it is by far from be-
ing the best. ‘It is just the sort of
play that runs for two hours and
that is about all there is to it. Mr.
Fields is as delightful as ever when
he is as he was. and he is less in-
zrltialing when he seeks to displace
Tyrone Power and‘our other tragic
actors.
