Benny Leonard intends to retire
from the ring next fall. That state-
ment was made today by Billy Gib-
son, manager of the lightweight
champidn and. “as corroborated by
Leonard. If Benny manages to re-
lain his clutch on the crown
throughout the current season and
lixes up to his intention to hang up
the gloves permantly he will be the
first llghtw eight champion since
Jack McAullffe_to retire while hold-
ing the championship.
McAullffe, in fact, is the only
lightweight champion who quit the
business as a. champion. It is Leon-
ard' s ambition to do ’the same thing.
