Dr. Shea made a personal study
of a. single case of infectious syphi-
lis in Connecticut and includes in
his report a chart showing the
number of people exposed to the
disease by this one case. The num-
ber runs to the appalling figure of
130. Chances of infection include
the infected person's use of a cigar
cutter in a. store and after the ci-
gar had been placed in his mougn
drinking Trorn a. cup in the barber
shop in which he worked
which six other barbers drank. one
of whom shaved six men after he
had cut his finger. and eating two
meals a. day in restaurants.
