WESTPORT. April 17.—The over-
turning of s. three and a half ton
truck yesterday noon at Washington
avenue and North North Main street
owned by William Eddy. of Wash-
ington avenue, and operated by John
A. Innis, of Compo street. this town,
is being investigated by local police.
The truck was being operated with
defective brakes and a. defective
steering gear, the police learned.
The truck is used as a “house to
house" grocery. and at the time was
filled with orders. The driver turn-
ed off North \iain street and started
up the steep grade on \Vashlngton
avenue, only to stall and start roll-
ing backwards At the foot of the
grade the rear wheels climbed‘ the
steep embankment and the truck
then turned turtle. Innis and Frank
Eddy, the two occupants. were fort-
unate‘ln escaping serious injury.

Efforts of the police to locate the
operator or the occupants of a. car
which ran off the Post Road at
Greens Farms and tried to climb a
tree late Tuesday afternoon. have
thus far been without success. The
machine was traveling towards
over to the left of the road and con-
tinued until stopped by a. tree. him-k-
ors on the car were removed and be-
fore the mishap was reported to the
police the ‘owner succeeded in get-
ting hls car towed beyond the town
limits. The accident happened just
west of Bulkloy‘s bridge.
